Brush stuck!
Was starting to clean the AR (colt sp1) this morning and as I've done a million times before, started with the brush. Used a new brush as the old one was shot. Went in a little tight as I expected, but it pulled off of the threaded mount that is on the bottom of the brush. It is now stuck about 2 inches inside the rifling.
I'm mechanically minded, but not a gunsmith by any means.
Any suggestions?in dei gloriam

Re: Brush stuck!
Push it through and out the other end.
Why so tight??? Are you using a .25 cal brush?

Re: Brush stuck!
Tap it gently out with a rod.

Re: Brush stuck!
I hope your cleaning from the breach side and not the muzzle side! Along with that, you don't want to push the rod out past the muzzle and pull it back.
Ideally you should also use a chamber guide for cleaning your AR.

Re: Brush stuck!
Just using a .22 caliber brush. I'm still at work, so I'll see what I can do later. This really seems odd to me that it got stuck, so I'll let you know if I find anything weird.

Re: Brush stuck!
Also, quick question:
I've never been schooled correctly on the use of a brush in the barrel for cleaning and always just ran it both ways. I've never seen any negative effects of this, but I'm also not an everyday shooter. So why would you not want to run the brush both ways? Wears on the breach? Wears on the muzzle crown?
But still, the brush getting stuck was a surprise to me.in dei gloriam

Re: Brush stuck!
Good Luck,
A Buddy of mine asked me to clean a M44 he bought from some Moron that Fired it with Corrosive Ammo and Never Cleaned it. Not only did the Brush get stuck, But I broke 2 cleaning rods trying to get it out. Finally had to goto Homey Depot and buy a Solid steel Rod and Pound it out. Since the Gun cost less than $55 and was already F'd up, I wasn't really concerned with F'ing it up more.
Surprisingly it cleaned up pretty good but I couldn't tell ya bout the accuracy. I think he bought it just to keep on his boat. But if it was an AR I don't know what I'd do. Maybe try a Wood Dowel (Stay Away from Steel Rods) and see where that goes. Be sure to spray some kind of oil down the bore to help it along.

Re: Brush stuck!
Flood with Bore solvent i.e. copper remover and wait.
Solvent will dissolve the brush enough in time ,and you can push it out.

Steve
