Google Earth/Iraq pics
Aint Google Earth the darnedest thing?
Here are two pics of my former compound located within a larger installation. I took the pics during my second deployment to Iraq. The pics are old and I am sure the intelligence value is outdated, as my second deployment was still considered to be 'OIF 1.' (maybe OIF 2) So, I thought it would be fun to compare the google earth view, with my pics.
Above is the east to west view.
Above is the west to east view, from on top of the bunker.
The next image puts it all together... It is an aerial image from Google Earth. Check the coordinates for the exact location. (Habbaniyah-- right between Ar Ramadi and Al Fallujah) You can clearly see the gravel we put down to reduce dust in all three pics.
I think it is interesting that I can use google earth to see the exact tent that I was quite pleased to have the opportunity to sleep in on occasion.
The bad part is that the aerial image was available on google earth before, or at least very soon after I left... Not very secure.
Google is at the root of many privacy/1A issues... From the 'street-view' that sees in folks' windows, to the aerial views that show our military disposition in certain locations... Interesting stuff.

Speaking of Google street views. My brother sent me a link to a street view that showed I guy pointing a gun at a kid. That view has now been removed from their street view, but I used google image search to find it again.

Yeah that does kind of suck, but in their defense it's not like anyone looks at these before they go up, it would be impossible. These satellite's take millions of pictures which just go into these systems automatically.
I do know that in the past Google has removed images that were deemed sensitive like that once reported.Dan P, Founder & President, Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association

If you're talking about the green part, I think that's water, the scale is wrong for a ball field.....Unless the players are giants......
