Wegman's wifi blocks firearms sites.
Good afternoon,
I'm a longtime reader and a seldom poster. However, I'm sitting in Wegmans, finishing my lunch, and attempting to visit MidwayUSA.com. I get a message informing me that MidwayUSA is a "restricted" site under the category of "weapons". I'm irritated to say the least, and wanted to share this experience with my fellow readers. Wegmans must be another anti-gun business.

Re: Wegman's wifi blocks firearms sites.
That may not actually be a policy of Wegman's themselves but a policy of those that are providing the wireless network there.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Re: Wegman's wifi blocks firearms sites.
I imagine you're right. Many places have a firewall enabled that blocks porn/weapons/etc.
As an example, I cannot get to www.reddit.com/r/earthporn (sfw, btw, unless you'd get in trouble for a hit on the firewall. It's pictures of various places on earth. Some links there may be nsfw tagged, so it's on you to pay attention. I'm not responsible for your actions at work ).
OP, if you use android, try the Opera Mini browser.

Wegman's does sell popular shooting and gun related magazines.
Those web guard dogs are annoying. We should ask Wegman's directly what their internet policy is.

Maybe it is store by store, and not a company thing.

Re: Wegman's wifi blocks firearms sites.
Wegman's in Allentown is certainly not anti gun. I've been carrying in there for 5 years in April. If it's too warm for a jacket I'm open carry. I'm not a fan of wearing my shirt outside my pants. In all that time I had three employees ask what I was carrying and a question or two about the legalities. The only negative I had in there was a customer, about 4 years ago, who didn't like it. After all, there are a lot of children in there.
The older I get, the better I used to be.

It could even by the store's IT employee that decided on his/her own what should be accessible and what shouldn't.

Censorship in any form for any purpose will always have unintended results. Years ago there was a case (I think it was a school setting) where someone was trying to learn about breast cancer and couldn't get past breast.

It is probably a default policy in Websense or whatever they are using. I think it is more to prevent employees from wasting time on hobby sites. Many of these things also filter car shopping sites by default.
Boy, I say boy, you're reaching the limits of my medication!
