Default What Caliber for Carpenter Bees?

Wanted to get the collective wisdim here on a problem I'm having with an exceptionally large carpenter bee that's taken up residence under the eaves of my front porch.

After negotiations and threats failed, I finally resorted brandishing my weapon at the fuzzy winged monster, a Ruger Mark II, and then sent a couple of 40 grain Remington golden bullets his way -- to no effect. I reloaded with CCI Stingers, achieving 6 out of 10 hits on his COM, i.e. thorax region. The bee stumbled and fell, but got back up and charged...I fled for my life.

So my questions: why doesn't my ammo have more bee-stopping potential? Can any pistol cartridge be considered a true carpenter bee killer? Was it shot placement? What would an Alaskan guide do?

    All advice welcome...

    Thanks!

I don't know that thing is pretty big you might have to bring in the Artillery. At least a 155mm and that should take care of it.

    3 things.

    1. Shot placement

    2. Shot placement

    and most importantly:

    3. SHOT PLACEMENT!!

I just took out 3 of them with 2 shots from a .22LR fired from the hip. Got the first two with one shot clean through, the third one pulled out his sidearm but bc of a limp wristed grip didn't get anywhere close with the 13 rounds he fired, and i nailed him while he reloaded. All headshots right between the multi-faceted eyes. lol

Oh just go out and buy a can of brake cleaner (the green can) it melts their wings so they can't fly anymore, then step on it. Seriously.

I do like that flame thrower, I think I'll get one for the ice in winter.

Carpenter Bees always drill a perfect 1/2" hole, so anything below a .50 caliber should work.
