SA Revolver for CCW
I'm considering purchasing a Ruger Bisley Vaquero or a New vaquero with a 4.62" barrel just for plinking but then I got to thinking that it'd be a good weapon to carry in the winter months in a cross-draw, high-ride holster . . anyone else that does this? I understand that I'm not proficient with it currently but I plan on it.
Then there's the dilemma of whether to get one chambered in .357 or .45LC but that's for another thread.

Re: SA Revolver for CCW
I carry my 5.5" Vaquero from time to time.. The SA revolver is still a formidable tool, especially in an experienced persons hands. There are (2) things that a SA carrier needs to practice on: One, making the manual cocking of the gun second nature. Two, practicing fast reloading.

I don't know, they're much better than a pointed stick. Certainly have enough power. But there are much better choices. With that in mind, I see nothing wrong with it if that's what you really want to do. Just be aware of the limitations you're placing on yourself.
Mine in .45 ACP.

When I owned a ruger flat top Blackhawk I carried it a few times. The .45lc is expensive and hard to find in these parts so I'd go .357 and I believe they have convertibles for 9mm for practice.
I'll bet you bob munden could've carried his SA revolver and never need more than 6 for 6 opponents. Check him out on YouTube, if you think jerry is quick with a DA this guy will blow your mind with his SA skills.Go head, skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

Re: SA Revolver for CCW
A SA revolver for carry is a BAD Idea. too much to think about in a bad situation. You know? I use a S&W 638 Airweight. perfect because it is SA/DA, light and the hammer does not snag on anything.
