Default Wolff Shooter's Spring Pack Ruger GP100 Reduced Power

I bought a GP100 .357 and would like to try installing a spring kit.

So is this what I need: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=303418

    Product #: 303418
    Our Price: $9.49

I am good with tools but have no idea how to swap these springs out. Is there a procedure on how to do this somewhere or is it pretty self explanatory?

Also, besides making the trigger easer to pull, is there any downfalls to adding these springs? Miss fires or anything? I don't want any of them.

    Thanks

It's not that hard to do especially if you have field stripped your GP before. If you're not sure you want to do it a ginsmith could put these in in less than 15 min. Anytime you put a lighter hammer spring in a revolver you can have light primer hits (misfires). But this is not a given unless you go very, very light. This is due to the difference in the primer manufacturere and how thick they make their primer cups. CCI are fairly thick and hard, Federal are thinner and a bit softer, etc. For competition I always used Federal primers in my reloads for reliable ignition (I shot PPC and built a PPC gun from a GP and ran light trigger and hammer springs).

And you have several gunshops in the Nampa/Boise area that can do this work.

That's an easy swap. I put the heaviest springs from the pack in my GP 100, made a big (better) difference in the trigger feel, with zero ftf.

    12# main spring (hammer spring)
8# return spring if pistol has been blueprinted, otherwise, 10# return spring for definite trigger reset.

Your return spring weight will determine the trigger pull. Going less than the 12# main spring may cause light hits like Xring said in his reply for those reasons. If you will be shooting factory loads, I would recommend the Federals and you can try the 10# main spring. You can always install the 12# if the 10 doesn't work out and still have a much improved over factory trigger action.

If you would like a copy of Iowegan's Book of Knowledge (IBOK), PM me.

P.S. I'm on the phone right now with a neighbor of your's up the road in Middleton. I make it out to Mountain Home ocassionally, we'll have to shoot next time I come out.
