How do I sell to another member in another state (handgun).
Hello All:
How do I sell a hangun to a member in another state. I want to make sure the weapon is transferred into his name also.
Please let me know!
Thanks!

(Depending on the laws in the recipient's state?) you may be able to ship it directly to their FFL, who will make sure everything is legal there before releasing it to the buyer. If not, you'll need to find your own FFL who will in turn ship to the recipient's FFL.

It takes a little coordination between you both since the transfer must be FFL to FFL. Then when your friend picks up the gun he must comply with the background check and state laws on the receiving end. So you need to find an FFL to send the gun and he needs to find one to receive and complete the transaction.

Re: How do I sell to another member in another state (handgun).
Listen to PA Patriot, for he is correct. Federal law says the anyone can send a gun to any FFL in the US be it for repair, customization, resale, etc. Now that said, some FFL's do not and will not accept shipments from non-FFL's. That is their perogative. In that case you will need to find a local FFL to send it for you. Shipping wise, in the case of a handgun, FFL to FFL can be pretty cheap as they can ship via USPS. A non-FFL can only ship via common carrier (UPS, FedEx, etc) and they will cost more because their rules say handguns must go overnight, which costs a bunch more.

If I may ask a similar question.
I am looking to buy a handgun from another resident of PA. Sale will be within PA.
Can he ship it directly to my FFL? How does he do that or does he have to bring it to his FFL and send it to my FFL?
forgive me if my question is redundant to OP but since my sale is not out of state.

reading UPS.com and DHL's website it requires FFL to FFL.
does not indicate an individual can ship directly to the purchasers FFL.
not sure about FEDEx
i guess i answer my own question unless anyone knows something else.

Re: How do I sell to another member in another state (handgun).
If the receiving FFL will accept a shipment from a non-FFL he can ship via common carrier. In my experiences both UPS and FedEx (in State College) will accept the shipment from a non-FFL as long as the person has a copy of the receiving FFL's license to show them (to prove it is going to a FFL not and individual). For a handgun it is really easier to go FFL to FFL, plus FFL to FFL can go USPS (Flat rate Priority Box) much cheaper than UPS or FedEx (they mandate overnight shipping).

My friend in NY has a gun I'm interested in. If he drove to PA and we went to an FFL here that would be legal right?
