    Default A572 steel for targets?

I have some 3/8" A572 GR 50 steel. If I made some 12" swing plates Do you think this will hold up to 9mm's?

    Searching online is your friend.

Take a look at this link....I use AR500 for my steel targets...not cheap, but will hold up to small arms fire.

That A572 steel that you have has a brinell hardness for 135, which is sub par for a steel target.

    Buy once cry once.

3/8" will hold up to 9mm and 38sp for awhile. The easier it is for the target to move the longer it will last. just dont shoot rifles and high power handguns at it and expect it to not get holes/or deformed

You will likely get this type of steel deformation with mild steel although I don't know the specs on this plate nor can I tell you which are 9mm for reference.
As posted, moveable (swingers) will have less damage than solidly held targets.

There are many caliber hits up to 357 mags IIRC

Opinions are like anal apertures. They all stink but mine.

I searched online for a while but didn't come up with anything. Thats why I asked. A572 is free but I want the right stuff. Thanks. I'll buy some Ar500. Those prices seem on par.
