Default What happens if you get stopped with a gift handgun?

Say I'm stopped by police for some reason, and I'm carrying, and the gun on me was a gift from my mother dearest. What would happen?

I know they can run serials and it'll show them who the purchaser was. Me and my mom have different last names, so I'm concerned they'd try to spin it as if I had a stolen handgun. Should she go and transfer the handgun to me, so my name matches the serial # in that bullshit database?

Shoot your dog (if you have one), and steal the gun from you. Seriously.

I hate to say this, but having it transferred to you probably is the best way to retain your handgun in a scenario like that. Should Philly PD confiscate it, far more time (and money, very likely) will be required than that of a transfer.

It sounds like you already know you carry and possess within the law, but standing on principal can involve added costs and risks, so you will want to consider that.

I could have purchased my wife's carry pistol and given it to her as a gift, but we had the store transfer it to her. The scenario you mention was a consideration for me at the time.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

I think to be on the safe side w/o any hassle you should have Your MOM write a short letter in which she can list the gun and that she gave iot to you - which is by the way perfectl;y legal in PA. jmop

"oh officer, don't worry, that gun is mine, here's a hand written letter from my mom that proves it!"

lol.. sorry. I'd rather just get it transfered.

Would it help if it was signed, "Topsy's mother?"

Topsy: "Oh, officer that gun is mine and I can prove it."

Cop: "So, what do you have... a note from your mommy?"

    Topsy: "Actually, sir, YES!!!"
