target shooting in the cold weather
How many are tougher than me and punch holes in paper out in the cold weather with more than a coating of snow on the ground? Used to do it, but no more.

This guy right here, but dont see that being a life long commitment, still young and limber and not entirely bothered by the cold like i am the heat (unless its windy, wind, cold and the range dont mix for me)

Love shooting in the cold, keeps the a-holes away from the range.

Re: target shooting in the cold weather
Did it every winter, every weekend for about 6 years. Last year I gave up on shooting outside every weekend in the winter if it's not at least 40 degrees out. I'll shoot inside instead.
Coldest outing was about 4 years ago. It was -6 when I left the house to shoot a round of CMP with friends. I'm too old for that cold crap now, except for the club's once a month CMP shoot, rain or shine, regardless of temp.Last edited by Hawk; February 5th, 2014 at 04:11 PM.

Re: target shooting in the cold weather
Not for a few years now, since arthritis starting getting bad in my hands & fingers, but if it's not too cold out I'll still go to the range, even in the 30's if it's a nice day out

Re: target shooting in the cold weather
Obviously, I am going to have to start since spring is about a thousand years away!

Re: target shooting in the cold weather
The majority of my 1911's are .45 ACP,,,,,,, I really don't like to take them out in temps below their caliber. I know how cold it feels to me (at almost 70) and can't even imagine how cold it feels to a 1911.
I tried it once and found that the target keeps moving,,,,,,, so,,, they must be cold also.Last edited by thundrr1; February 5th, 2014 at 04:11 PM.

So many guns, so little money.

Re: target shooting in the cold weather
I dont mind going in winter, but it either needs to be warmer (40 degrees) or no wind and some sunshine. Unfortunately no weekend in the last few months have met those criteria, and my range cart stays loaded up in my basement full of hope.
You may find me dead in a ditch one day. But by God, I'll be lying in a pile of brass.

Re: target shooting in the cold weather
I don't shoot as much as the rest of the year because the main range is often inaccessible due to the conditions, but I still go out and shoot. The cold weather doesn't really bother me.

Re: target shooting in the cold weather
I was out yesterday. Had the range all to myself. Popped off 3 mags @ 30 apiece. Picking the brass out of the snow isn't to much fun. They tend to melt down in and refreeze.
There was tracks in the snow, other people had been there recently.
Shot last week when it was zero. Probably won't do that again.
