Re: Philadelphia Police revolvers
I entered the academy September 1961. We were issued 4-inch S&Ws probably a model 10. I carried it until I turned it in when I left in November 1966. There were still 300+ revolver carrying Philly officers (their choice) as of a few years ago that I knew of.
When I qualified, I bought a Colt Detective Special from Lock's. Not to brag, but a kind of funny story....two of us were tied for first place in handgun. Range personnel settled it appropriately via a shoot-off between us. There we were, on the firing line, about to commence, when I became aware of activity behind us. There was the class, assembled to watch the contest. Money was being passed, as they were betting on us!
ETA: Got a PM asking who won. I did. My prize was a set of gold Cross pen and pencil with my full name engraved on them. I still have the mechanical pencil. I managed to lose the penLast edited by Bang; December 9th, 2021 at 06:09 PM.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

Re: Philadelphia Police revolvers
The only Philly cops I saw with revolvers were cops in the traffic unit. This was a couple years ago. Even the PA DOC traded in all of their revolvers. I haven*t seen any non-DOC law enforcement officers carry a revolver in at least 2 years.
