    Question Scope rings uneven/torque specs.

I recently got a rifle with a luepold VXR scope. The FFL dealer put the scope on and boresighted it. My issue (my OCD) the rings are unevenly put on (higher on one side). Is this an issue ? What are the torque specs. for a Leupold scope with Leupold steel rings ? I heard you make it just past snug and if you hear a "crack" you went too far. I don't want to find out the hard way what too far is. Is there a set ounce/ inch pounds for this ?

American Rifleman had an article in 2008 that I made note of and stored away for future use:

    Leupold:

6-48 screws on bases 18 inch pounds

8-40 screws on rings 28 inch pounds

Are you talking about the space between the top and bottom halves? I hate that too. If your scope is square, loosen one set at a time and then pull the screws down even 1/8th of a turn on each screw until they are hand tight, snog. Then do the other set same way. OCD.

Use a feeler gauge if it bothers you that much, then torque evenly.

It's a non issue...I'd be more concerned that they used a torque wrench to verify proper torque then the space of the rings.
