Default Harrisburg City Government Center - New Mayor Removes Metal Detector and Police

Was just listening to the morning news on ABC27 in Harrisburg. The one local report was that when the new Mayor of Harrisburg was sworn in a couple weeks ago, one of the first things he did was remove the metal detectors and the police officer from the Harrisburg City Government Center and replace them with a receptionist. The reason was to make the Center more friendly for the citizens, and to save money. Congrats to the new Mayor Papenfuse....

Once you get past the ad, the part about the metal detector is around the 2:00 minute mark.....

Why were they there in the first place? Were kids shooting each other in the rec-center?

Former Mayor Linda Thompson is very anti-gun and is/was a member of MAIG. She served one term and was defeated in the primary election. The metal detectors were placed there at her and the chief of police's insistence (to make the building safer, of course). Reports were that no one carrying a firearm was denied admittance, but that person was escorted throughout the building. Whether that person carrying was allowed into city meetings, I don't know. Most people did not care to go to those meetings anyway.

    Funny you should mention that...

If you're not familiar with her, imagine the biggest mouth on the most arrogant, but clueless person you could imagine and you have Linda Thompson. If only I could buy her for what she's worth and sell her for what she thinks she's worth. Prior to her stint as mayor she was on city council and was just as much a PITA in that role. She is one of the most opinionated, mouthy, negative, know-it-all people on the planet. I don't know how true it is, but I've heard from more than one source that she was formerly a prostitute in Harrisburg, to which I replied "now there's what I want to do... pay for sex and then be criticized throughout the entire act!"

Were the metal detectors to keep "Perry County Scumbags" out?

We Perry County Scumbags stay out of that shithole as much as possible.

That means at least one more cop that can actually be productive.
