Default New to CC with questions

    hello all,

I am new to this forum and also CC.
I've had my LTCF for a year now.
    I'm 6'-5", 270# and a beer gut of course.
As you can imagine a tiny gun does not fit well in my hands.
I currently own a Glock22 Gen 4 for home defense and it will probably be too bulky and uncomfortable to CC.
I'm not sure why but i lean towards Glocks.
I'm looking to purchase a slightly smaller glock to CC and i'd like to hear experiences on CCing the Glock 30S or the Glock 27.
Reccommendations on type and brand of holster, IWB or OWB, position etc...
Pictures of these methods would also be great.

Thank you and have a great day, Steve

An good owb holster with a proper belt and a T-shirt should cover your 22 and be comfy without issue.
Try around the 4 oclock position.

Regarding holsters. Someone told me, "you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find a princess". Well it's true. I must of bought over a dozen holsters.

    Trial and error.

I carry 3 oclock IWB and OWB, IWB holsters range from Galco King Tuks (very comfortable), comptac M-tac (more suite for appendix or 4oclock carry, but comfortable...

as mentioned a GOOD gun belt goes a long way, buy once cry once..

I'm 6'1 around 250 pounds, I carry a 19 in a Don Hume holster around the 4 o clock position. I find it pretty comfortable and easy to get to.

The G27 may be a bit small for your hands, but would be very easy to carry.

How about the G23? It smaller than the G22 but not too small and could easily be carried. And of course can accept G22 mags and .40 ammo.

That said, with a good belt and holster you can manage the G22 without too much effort I would bet.

    My EDC is a G26.

With the pinky extension it is a great gun for even regular range use. I put between 300-500 rounds a week through mine.

The G27 shares the same lower/frame and the G30 is very close but not an interchangeable platform. So even though our preferred calibers are different, don't discount me entirely.

I have come to love the 'hybrid' style IWB tuckable holster type. They range greatly in price, but so many people are making them at the moment, you do not need to pay top dollar to get top level performance.

    I got mine from http://www.ebay.com/sch/ridgid-holst...1&_ipg=&_from=

Presumably when he was less busy, as mine was only $40 for what he is now asking $60 for.

The screws instead of rivets, which let you adjust retention pressure as it breaks in were a big factor. Another factor was available color selections for both the leather and kydex parts. I went with a brown on brown color scheme on the thought that black might show more through a white dress shirt.

As for carry position, that was a matter of trial and error. In my wife's jeep and most everywhere else, 4:00-4:30 feels great, but in my truck, I need to slide it to almost 3:00. So, I position the clips in front of my 3:00 belt loop and behind my 4:30 belt loop so I can slide the whole rig forward when I go to get into my truck.

If you find yourself down my way let me know.

I am a member at the range at Targetmaster and one of the perks is free gun rentals. I have brought several guests and taken one gun after another from the rental counter to let them shoot a bunch of guns they were considering. All my guest pays is the $15 range fee and of course you are required to buy the ammo there to shoot in their rental guns.

If you are not going to be down my way, I know that several private ranges work the same way. Post a thread looking for a member at a range near you.
