    Default Ruger Commander 1911

My LGS has a Ruger Commander 1911 stainless for sale $650 New.

A quick google search for the model yields an MSRP of $769+

45 cal, compact model (4.25 inch barrel)

    Good gun? good buy?

Would be my first 1911, always wanted one. Not sure if this should be the one or not. The price is right for me.

    Opinions?

    yes yes and yes.

ruger came to market with a very good product, with some higher end options for a good price.

side note: IGNORE MSRP on a OEM site, there always a good 10-20% higher then street. Check gunborker and other online retailers for AVG prices.

Price is about average from what I've seen at my lgs. I picked one up last year and paid $625, but I think they have crept up a bit. My 2 cents, if you really want it, it's a good price, but if you are looking for the best deal, you may be able to get lower, but not by a whole heck of a lot. It's a nice 1911 for sure and I really like the commander size and if I only could have one 1911, this would probably be it. I have full size and compact 1911's and prefer this one. Good luck!

It's a solid start. Series 70, good fit, good price.

I warn you though, it's a disease. You will buy more, and each will be more expensive than the last.

Price is about right, they have come down now that the demand is starting to slow down. Go back a year or two ago and you couldn't find them for under $800 unless you got on a waiting list to buy one. You'd be hard pressed to find a better deal on a cost/value basis on a 1911 than the Ruger right now. I have the full size and am glad I waitedfor it, took me almost a year to find one. The Commander will probably be my next purchase because my wife loves mine and wants one for herself. Check the fit of the slide, some are a little tighter than others.

I typically also check Bud's Guns prices to get a gauge on a good price. They aren't always the best but typically have fairly decent prices lower than most.

Agreed on the Commander size. They're my favorite too, but unfortunately, still too big for my small frame to carry regularly.
