    Default Help Me Decide - SR22 or GSG/Sig 1911-22

Trying to decide on a possible .22LR pistol purchase. I've narrowed it down to the two choices mentioned in the title. There are some pros and cons I've come up with...

    SR22
    Pros:
    Cheap/good value
Two magazines and different baseplates included
    Not picky with ammo
    Picatinny rail
    Great sights
    Quick field strip

    Cons:
    Trigger isn't amazing (hey its just a $300 .22)
    A bit small

    GSG/Sig 1911-22
    Pros:
Nice complement to 1911 in .45ACP
    Great trigger for a .22
    Very cool looking
    Threaded barrel

    Cons:
    One magazine ($35 value)
    $50 more than the SR22
Durability of finish (this is my biggest concern)

Can anyone comment on the durability of the GSG/Sig finish? I know you have to be careful with solvents around as they can rub it off. Cosmetic durability is actually fairly imporant to me. It seems like the SR22 is a more reliable shooter but the 1911 has that coolness factor

    I have the Sig 1911-22

I can not speak of the durability of the finish, but I can say that some 1911 parts will interchange with the 1911-22. I had picked up a set of laser grips for one of my other 1911's. I decided to put them on the 1911-22. The grips were not made for an ambi safety. So I ordered a 1911 replacement. I little filing and it dropped right in.

Generally, I have not been impressed with the overall quality of GSG. If you can, take one apart and check it out. Some assembly methods seem to use the cheapest and most cost effective parts.

I would agree. But they are still cheaper than a 1911 conversion kit.

Really different choices here. I think you just have to go with your gut. What do you really want? A 1911 style gun with adequate quality, and reliability for a plinker, or probably a less finicky, but small field gun/plinker?

Really like my GSG. No issues, has handled all ammo, accurate and well built. Same issue as SIG though, cheap finish. I bought the anniversary edition with the presentation box and knife - first day at range a chip out of finish. I believe from a spent round brushing against slide on the way out! I like Rugers but have never been a fan of the 22 - totally style and look issues, not so much function.

The GSG/Sig 1911-22 is loads of fun out of the box but can also be fully customized to make it "yours".

Here are some 1911-22 specific accessories...

I have 2 GSGs and love them both. I will say they did fix a few things with the newer ones over the first ones produced. the finish is better and the guide rod is stronger.
