Gun Show Ammo Purchase
It seems the big box stores will be consistently OUT of hand gun ammo at least for now. And I have tried to purchase ammo at the small, mom and pop, gun shops, but their prices are so outrageous.
I thought of reloading, but the ACP rounds and potential problems there in, have changed my mind. So GunShows seems to be the best solution.
Anything here I might be missing on where to buy??

Re: Gun Show Ammo Purchase
What problem do you see reloading .45 ACP? I load tens of thousands of them on a Dillion 650. Piece of cake!
Most gun show dealers are raping people on ammo! Get on the email list for the major sites so you receive an alert as soon as ammo becomes available and buy it ASAP before it sells out.
Most local dealers around here are somewhat reasonable and can be negotiated with. And if not, fuck'em I will spend my money somewhere else it's that simple. Most of them realize this and are willing to come down on there price then risk loosing a sale/return biz.Last edited by K31; January 3rd, 2014 at 09:27 AM.

Re: Gun Show Ammo Purchase
Gun shows seem to be more expensive than any mom and pop stores around here.

Re: Gun Show Ammo Purchase
I have read with any ACP load that a crimp to loose or to tight may cause serious problems. I just don't see how I can totally guaranty consistent crimps.
How would you know? if it was too loose or too tight?

I don't know where you are shopping but there is ammo out there and prices are decent.
Online use Gunbot and Slickguns to look at ammo deals. In addition before you buy look up coupon codes on Slickguns. Just about all the major ammo sellers that have good deals like Midway, Sportsmans Guide, Natchez, Palmetto State, Cabela's and others will often have free shipping or some other deal.

Generally, you only need a light crimp on a .45 ACP just to remove the belling of the case mouth so the gun feeds and chambers reliably and to keep the bullet from setting back into the case when hitting the feed ramp. This can all be controlled with the crimp die and is pretty standard.

Re: Gun Show Ammo Purchase
Gun shows can be hit or miss on prices, I did get a few decent deals at the Oaks show right before Christmas on a few things.
Mom and Pops are tough, sometimes they have what you want, sometimes not, then the mark-up. Buying online can usually give you the most savings, but you have to buy a lot to offset the shipping costs. This is where I like to get together with some friends and buy bulk. Usually all of the russian ammo.
That leaves Walmart, and places like Dick's, if they have it in stock, the prices are usually ok.
I buy very little ammo anymore, I reload.
I have read with any ACP load that a crimp to loose or to tight may cause serious problems."Disperse you Rebels! Damn you! Throw down your Arms and Disperse!" British Major Pitcairn at Lexington April 19, 1775
