Default Colt Lord Derringer .22 short

Given to me today in trade for sharpening a couple of knives. It doesn't look like it's ever been fired, as the rifling is still crisp. Serial number has a suffix of D, so it was made in or around 1973. Silver frame with black chrome barrel and walnut grips...it came with the presentation box and original paperwork.

I can't imagine I'd ever shoot it, but it makes one hell of a conversation piece, which is what they were originally made for.

I'll post pictures of it tomorrow after I clean it up a little.

Anyone ever have one go through their collection, or have one now?

I've never owned on, but have wanted one for my collection. They are nice little pieces.

Values aren't as high as one might think for a Colt.

I've seen pricing listed at even lower...this one isn't too bad. It looks even better after using a bit of Mother's wheel polish to the chrome and Old English to the grips.

    Stripped and before cleaning...

    After light polish...

Fully cleaned, reassembled, and put back in it's box...

After taking it apart and completely cleaning it, I found it's been fired. There's not as much rifling left as originally thought.

I'd say it's only worth $50-$75 dollars, maybe a few bucks more since it has the original paperwork. It's a decent little conversation piece...something neat to have.

It would be worth more if it came as a matching set...the Lord and Lady Derringer sets are worth about $500 or so.
