Infant Girl shot and killed.
An infant girl was shot and killed in East Lampeter Twp., Lancaster County,
Christmas Eve. I caught the story on TV while helping the wife wrap some
last minute presents. Apparently at apartment. It said only that a family member
was responsible. No names were given. A D.A. from Lancaster advised that the
shooting was under investigation and was a terrible tragedy. An autopsy was
scheduled for today. Anyone hear anything more about this?FUNDAMENTALS

Yeah. Lots of loons out on this one. I've lost count of the number of times I've heard someone say that anyone who has a fun around a child should be charged with something for endangering the child. They dummy like it when you point out that based on the numbers they shuls be charged with the same for putting a child in a car

Re: Infant Girl shot and killed.
So sad. Around this time of year this happens more often like the father over in NYC who gets visitation of his child on his own, goes to the 52nd floor, threws 3 year old out the window and then follows. I hate hearing crap like that, leave the children out of it.

Re: Infant Girl shot and killed.
I was reading the comments on Lancaster Online. A lot of comments about banning guns, gun owners should be proud of themselves and that the ownership of guns is outweighed by this type of thing.
I was curious so I checked the stats and it appears more kids die from drowning in pools than from accidental shootings. Yet there is no outcry to ban or regulate private pool ownership.

Re: Infant Girl shot and killed.
This is true (or not), depending on the age range that you consider "kids." Accidental shootings of kids under 12 is very rare -- easily gleaned from the CDC web site (they have some very useful database search tools).
The analogy with swimming pools (or cars) breaks down with most people, since in their view pools and cars have a obvious positive value and justify some level of risk. Most people (including many gun owners) do not believe there is any real benefit from private citizens carrying firearms. Statistics like "2+ million uses of a firearm is self defense each year" don't fit with what they see and read. And as everyone knows, 83.4% of statistics are made up "on the spot" -- I got that in a fortune cookie last week (literally), so it MUST be true! Come to think of it, it's probably not far off. Give me a set of numbers and I can "prove" pretty much anything. And let's face it, many of the stories in the NRA's "Armed Citizen" column are pretty lame. The truth is that most who defend themselves with a firearm are not eager to report it, and for good reason. We need better PR, and the NRA has done a pretty sad job of that -- it seems mostly targeted to alarming gun owners and convincing them to join and contribute.
