Default Smith and Wesson 1000P 12 Gauge

I picked up a S&W model 1000P 12 gauge, with 28 inch barrel with no vent rib and a single brass bead up front. It is in great shape with a 2 small dings in the wood furniture. Everything that I read about older smith and wesson pump shotguns only mention the model 3000. I have not found much info out about the model 1000P yet. Like I said the gun is in overall great shape both externally and internally and the best part is that the price was under $200. If anyone has any information on this gun i would really appreciate it or if any anyone knows the years they were manufactured.

    Thanks

Here's the parts list, owners manual and disassembly instructions.

The 1000 model was a semi auto shotgun as was the 3000. I owned a 1000 Super Skeet Model. The forearm on the 1000 Super is different from the 1000.

The 916 model is a pump action shotgun. Both were manufactured by Howa of Japan. Quality on these guns are acceptable but nothing special.

the s&w pump shotguns seemed to be a knock off of the 870.

owned one for a bit, nice enough shotgun,

The 1000were old semi auto like Remington 1100. My father had one and sold it because it was a piece of junk!

You may have better luck. Google them.

I know that the model 1000 was the semi auto version and the model 916 was the pump. I can find info on these two models.

The model that I purchased is a model 1000P and it is a PUMP action, not the semi. This is why I cant seem to find much information on it.

the S&W 3000 was a pump gun.at the time S&W was the top dog in the police handgun market.their game plan was to be a one stop shop for all the gear a police officer would need so they made pistols, handcuffs and holsters and the 3000 pump gun.and yes they are a close copy of the Remington 870 with a few improvements to the feed system which remington later copied.when the police and S&W found that they didn't hold up out in the field cause of an alum receiver the police went back to their rem 870's and S&W dropped the 3000.nothing wrong with a 3000 I have one myself with a folding stock and as long as your not abusing it they will hold up real well. crazywolf

Yup, looks like the 3000 was a pump with alloy receiver designed for duty work with the Police. Some info over at the Smith and Wesson Forums.

Here's a fella that carries parts

On my Super Skeet 1000 The choke tubes and wrenches were the exact same as my Winchester (USRA) 1300 and 1400.

The forestock on this 1000p looks exactly like the one on my 1000 Super Skeet.

I have a S&W Model 3000 Riot Gun that was a Prison Trade-in, It's a Pretty nice little Shotgun and is based off the Remington 870

I just keep it around for a House gun, But since I have a few other Shotguns, I don't take it out to Play a whole lot. But when I do, It works every time.

Enjoy your 1000, nothing Wrong with it.
