    Default 1911 S&W E-Series project

My S&W E-Series w/rail is one of my favorite 1911s. Only thing I hate about it was the fact that all the hardware was black (beavertail, msh, slide stop, mag release, plunger tube, ambi safety). I called S&W to find out what the beavertail specs where so I could order one, they told me this is a common question and not only can they not give me the spec, I couldn't even order a replacement part if I wanted. My options were to buy a beavertail and jig and file down my frame and beadblast/polish it again. The light bulb hit and I had Chris from Pittsburgh Cerakote finish my beavertail, slide stop, mage release and ambi safety in stainless steel Cerakote. I would not have to get a new beavertail and fit it, I would only have to order a new MSH (I got an Ed Brown w/ magwell in s.s. and snakeskin to match the e-series theme. I also ordered new VZ aliens in predator green with ambi-cut and magwell profiles, new spring set including hammer strut and 2 sets of recoil spring for different loads. I finally finished it today and got everything re-assembled, including the 2nd plunger tube (I crushed the first.... forgot the support pin while staking.). I couldn't be happier, my next project is a trigger job and replacement on my sig scorpion 1911, then I'm going to build a 1911 from scratch (ordering the frame, slide and parts and fitt them. I also will be cutting the foam on a new pelican case for these set of 45s. Big thanks to Chris from Pittsburgh Cerakote, he is great to work with and top notch paint job, i'll be sending a bunch more work his way after the holiday. If you want Cerakote work done contact him info@pittsburghcerakote.com

If you do not already have it, you might want to pick up Kuhnhausens book on the 1911. It is a wealth of information on building a 1911 and how the parts fit together and what you need to do to fit those parts.
