I must have missed that. But the forum rules still read no political discussion outside the 2A. If they are now being more lenient, they should update the rules.

Would be nice if someone could find that post. The search function does not like it when I use my phone

Non-Firearm Politics (10 points, Expires in 1 month)
PAFOA is a site for discussion firearms related issues. We're NOT interested in religious, philosophical, or political discussions unless they pertain to the topic of firearms, firearms law and politics, firearms training, carry, etc. General discussion of non-firearms related topics that aren't religious, philosophical, or political in nature will still be allowed in the Lounge, but we're tired of breaking up arguments over topics of religion, philosophy, social issues.

As a general rule: if it's something that used to be discussed in the Political Wasteland forum, it's not allowed. We've tried to allow such discussion, and it seems people can't seem to debate these topics civilly.
    Rules as they read now.

The search doesn't work because too many people post just a link to the article with no pertinent information from the article in their original post.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

This is probably my biggest general forum pet peeve.

But the lack of enforcement of political posts or a dedicated political area is my biggest for this site. It's also something that the moderators can do something about but choose not to.

I believe this is what you are remembering:

The manner in which it is being enforced is different though than a year ago when the ban went into affect. The staff agreed in a meeting few months ago to allow non-firearm political discussions so long as each discussion didn't become a fight. If a discussion gets out of hand, the staff can close the threads and/or issue infractions based upon the rules.

Lycanthrope is correct on his numbers about the Lounge and Political Wasteland. There is, or at least was, a rather decent chunk of people who primarily stayed in those off-topic places. Both the Lounge and Political Wasteland accounted for the vast majority of the infractions and outright bans. When the PW closed there was minor drop in activity at this site, but a major drop in the number of reported posts, infractions, and bans.

If you all want to discuss politics, do it in the Lounge. If the discussion gets out of hand or break the rules - expect to get infractions and/or the thread closed.

For the sensitive people - if you are thin skinned, don't visit the thread. If you cant handle "rough talk", use the back button. Do not get involved if you are likely to cry over some words.
