S&W mod 36 dating? J265XX
Long story short, looking at a whooped mod 36 with a "I-have-a-basement-and-a-dremel-I-must-be-a-gunsmith" bobbed hammer, with a slightly bobbed frame. Okay, not really a bobbed frame, while cutting the spur which obviously was still assembled into the gun, the guy must have slipped and put a few sings into the frame. I just thought that bobbed frame sounded nicer, on the off chance the moron who did this was on the forum and read this - if this is you, great work.
Anyways - it's $150. I have a new hammer that will fit, and am planning on stripping the remaining bluing (40%) off the pistol and having it redone down the road. Can anyone tell me anything regarding it's age? I guessed 60's .. It's not a flat latch, and has the mod. 36 stamp inside the crane, serial is J265XX.
Thanks guys! I think I'm going to do it. External wear aside, the lock up is excellent and the action is decent."More is lost through indecision than wrong decision"
