Giffords new gun control PAC gives first to Toomey

As if we need another reason to vote Toomey's ass out.

Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Pat Toomey will be among the first beneficiaries of a political action committee run by former Arizona Democrat Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Giffords had a PAC that she used primarily to pay for air travel, according to Federal Election Commission public record. But in November she renamed it to the Rights and Responsibilities PAC and will be transferring nearly $300,000 from her congressional campaign account to it, according to several news reports.

Reported first by Politico and confirmed by USA Today, the updated PAC, which will reward politicians who support efforts to reduce gun violence, will make its first donations to Toomey and West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin.

Toomey and Manchin spearheaded an effort in the spring to expand background checks for gun sales made online and privately at gun shows. Throughout the process they worked closely with Giffords, who became an advocate for gun control issues after she was shot in the head at a public constituent event in 2011.

"Senator Toomey appreciates the support of Rep. Giffords. He continues to feel strongly that our communities would be safer if we used expanded background checks to prevent criminals and mentally disturbed people from obtaining guns," Toomey's spokesman Mark Harris said Friday.

Toomey already showed his true colors. His last local TV add series a few months ago was paid for by MAIG. He's no friend of ours, but I doubt there will be another republican to challenge his seat in the primary. So, what do WE do?

I'm very disappointed with Mr. Toomey. The last thing we need is him getting support from a gun hater. I'll send him a note to voice my polite but blunt displeasure on this issue. And yes, this could mean that he'll get more votes from Democrats.
