Looking for GOOD gunsmith for 1911's in Reading/Allentown area
Looking for a good Smith in the Reading /Allentown area.
Not some guy with a bench and tool box in the back room, but a craftsman capable of performing modifications and tuning.
Preferably on STI's.
Thanks

I didn't want to trot out my experience with him.
He's a hack with tools.

Re: Looking for GOOD gunsmith for 1911's in Reading/Allentown area
I asked a similar question of the guys at EGW a few months back.
Short answer: There aren't any. If you want to take your chances there are a ton of fair smiths out there. If you want a true 1911 pistolsmith, you are going to have to send your gun away.

Fully agree.....send it off or learn how to do it yourself.
One of the things I have noticed is the gunsmith trade sure does lack good pistol and revolver 'smiths. Be a good area for someone to pick up and make some money. Anybody can put an AR together, don't make them a gunsmith."Disperse you Rebels! Damn you! Throw down your Arms and Disperse!" British Major Pitcairn at Lexington April 19, 1775

Not exactly in your back yard, but Jim Garthwaite has a VERY good reputation.

In the interest of full disclosure, I've never actually had any work done by him personally (I don't own a 1911).Soap Box - Worn out : Ballot Box - Broken : Jury Box - Pending : Ammunition Box - Unknown
