Should I rush out and buy a Ruger SR22?
Should I rush out and buy a Ruger SR22?
Looking for a small pocket gun.
Thanks to your advice (another thread) I have largely rejected the derringer idea.
Chanced upon a review of the Ruger SR22. The comments were over 80 percent positive.
What do you know about this pistol?
Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Probably a very good pistol but I'm not sure I would recommend it as a "pocket gun", it's pretty big. If you're set on a .22 to pocket carry, you should look at something like a Baretta 21 Bobcat.

Not a pocket gun. Unless your pockets are unusually large. However, A great plinker.
As an aside, I would not recommend a .22lr for SD or HD, unless you have an unusually aggressive squirrel population....I don't watch shark week. Sharks watch FLICK week.

Sounds like you are looking for a self defense pistol. While I think .22's are great, and wouldn't want to be shot with one, there are better self defense pistols out there.
Look at the newer sub-compact 9MM's out there. S&W Shield, Springfield XDs, Sig P938, Walther PPS, etc.Last edited by Pilot321; December 3rd, 2013 at 10:43 AM.

Like said not a pocket gun unless you can pocket carry a thin compact. Its roughly the same size as a shield or nano. Good pkinker sure is. Sd no way

Re: Should I rush out and buy a Ruger SR22?
The sr22 is definettly a little too big for me to pocket carry. Exelent pistol but a little big for what your looking for. If you want a true pocket gun look at the ruger LCP. Larger caliber (.380) and probably half the size of the sr22.
If you are really sold on a .22 the bobcat is a good little gun as stated above. It likes hotter ammo though and runs best with CCI mini-mags and stingers I have heard. Personally I would look at the NAA mini revolvers if you want something really small. They come in .22lr or .22mag and shoot pretty well for what they are. I have an uncle that carries one in his pocket pretty much 24/7 and it dissapears easily. Also it is extremely simple so it is very reliable, something that can't always be said for a .22 pistol.

My mother bought a SR22, great gun, easy for her to learn on. No issues which made teaching her and getting her into guns all the easier. I really enjoyed shooting it, too.
If you're looking for a pinking .22lr its a great choice. In order to get intelligent answers you must speak intelligently.

As others have said, the SR22 is a great range toy, but if you're looking for a carry piece you'd be better served with the LCP or LCR.

Re: Should I rush out and buy a Ruger SR22?
The SR22 is defiantly not a pocket firearm. I would classify it as compact. Similar in size to the single stack 9mm compacts that are out there like the Kahr CW9 (that had an awesome $310 black friday/cyber Monday deal).
A true pocket firearm would be something like the LCP in .380.
To add I own and carry both the LCP and CW9. The LCP in either pocket or IWB, and the CW9 IWB and im looking into a OWB holster when I know ill have a long jacket on all the time.
Unless your dead set on .22 I would be looking at the firearms referenced above or similar ones depending on if you wanted something the size of the SR22 or wanted a true pocket firearm.Last edited by QuackXP; December 3rd, 2013 at 11:23 AM.

Doesn't this pistol have a magazine disconnect? IMO this makes it a no go for me as anything other than a range toy...
