    Default Favorite .223/5.56 load

A friend recently acquired a Mossberg MVP in .223/5.56 to use as a varmint rifle, specifically coyotes. Do you have any suggestions for bullet weight and loading? Most shots probably under 300 yards. Thanks for your help.

Looks like they come in a 1:9 twist, so lighter bullets.

Believe it or not, my SPS Tac shot the heavier 75gr rounds better, even though it wasn't supposed to, given the twist.....

I'd go with a 50-55 vmax but if you ever take to deer hunting a nosler 60gr partition will work very well on shoulder shots out to 75yds also my go to load is a 68gr hornady match bthp over benchmark powder.

My 223 is a Stevens 200 with a 22" 1-9" twist loves the 60's and 68's. The 68gr bthp are great for groundhogs my longest shot was 316yds on one no visible entrance and a golf ball sized exit

Another bullet is the 52gr amax they shot better than the 50 and 55gr vmax and they work just as well being thin jacketed.

Benchmark is my favorite powder in this round my dad prefers H335 or IMR 8208XBR.

45gr Controlled Chaos over Xterminator. Defeats barriers better than any other .224cal bullet and outperforms them terminally as well. Perfect for Coyotes.

I may be a lil'bit biased due to my geographical proximity of the manufacturer, however, the above statement is accurate.

Hornady 55g SP using 25.5g of TAC (good luck finding that powder)
