Rosewood or Walnut European Grips for Parkerized 1911 GI
So for my next firearm purchase, whenever that may be, I have decided on a GI 1911. Specifically a model from Auto Ordnance.
I've decided on this model, its going to be a safe/range queen so please no discussion on the choice of 1911 model.
I like everything but the plastic grips. I have found the style of grips I like but I'm torn between Rosewood and Walnut in the European style checkering, from Boone Trading Company.
It will be paired with a reproduction USGI holster.
What do you think looks better and why?Last edited by QuackXP; November 25th, 2013 at 11:07 AM.

The reddish one's have a feminine look to me. That's OK if you're a female. I'm not, so I like the brown, better. It has a more traditional look, to me, as well.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

Walnut, especially with your holster choice. Rosewood looks best most often on a stainless steel pistol, and would clash with the tone of your holster.
IMO, of course

If it's an American gun with a wood stock, the wood must be walnut. It's just the way it is.

They're ceasing production of them, but exotic wood grips from Wicked Grips make any 1911 look great. Below is a pic of mine

Why dont you just order it with the stock wood grips? It seems like you are going for a "classic" look. In my opinion both grips you are looking at dont fit that bill. As a side note, when I reported to my ship we were still being issued 1911s from the original armament from when the ship was commisioned in 1961. They were parkerized with brown plastic grips.
