Default Gun Grabbers Were Very Busy! Plus new National Cathedral Info.

All these stories below, and more, appeared in multiple national press outlets this past weekend. The anti's are working their play book and growing support among the fence-sitters drip by drip by drip.

City eyes gun, smoking, car idling limits
The gun measure would bar people from carrying in public loaded semi-automatic rifles and pistols over .22 caliber with magazines holding more than 20 rounds of ammunition, according to a staff report. Shotguns loaded with more than seven shells also would be banned.

Councilor Kristin Szakos said the ordinance is aimed at preventing violence.

“At this point, if a police officer or a security person sees somebody walk into a building with one of these guns, there is nothing they can do about it,” Szakos said. “If they could do something, it would make a huge difference.”
There has been one gun homicide in Charlottesville this year, when Jarvis Brown, 22, was shot to death in the Fry’s Spring neighborhood.

Arguments to ricochet as gun bill is debated
The latest sweeping changes to Ohio gun laws, including a “stand your ground” provision, have generated fierce debate, and the gun bill containing them is set for action in the Ohio House this week.

House Bill 203 contains a number of components, including efforts to ensure that cities can’t avoid paying attorneys fees when their gun laws are challenged, and ensuring that people don’t get concealed-carry licenses in Ohio who don’t even qualify for purchasing a gun.

“We are attempting to get our constitutional rights back,” said Gary Witt, legislative coordinator for Ohioans for Concealed Carry.

But the bill, scheduled for a possible committee vote on Tuesday, contains several controversial provisions that have drawn fire from law enforcement and advocates for gun restrictions.

“The changes suggested in this bill are not warranted and will not increase the safety of Ohioans,” said Toby Hoover, founder of the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence.

Mail-order guns still easy to get
WASHINGTON -- Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated President John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963, with a mail-order Mannlicher-Carcano 6.5 millimeter bolt-action rifle, for which he paid $19.95 plus shipping and handling.

Fifty years later, obtaining guns via mail is less common because the U.S. Postal Service imposes major restrictions on firearms shipments.

But despite a myriad of federal and state laws regulating gun transactions, buying a firearm via the Internet is commonplace.

Where Oswald mailed his money order with a coupon torn from an ad in the National Rifle Association'sAmerican Rifleman magazine, troubled individuals today can search online and similarly get their hands on powerful weapons with no questions asked, gun control advocates claim.

"Here we are 50 years later, still confronting these horrific shootings," said Sue Hornik, executive director of New York-based States United to Prevent Gun Violence. "Only now, we have assault weapons that are a lot more powerful than anything on our streets when Kennedy was president."

National Cathedral to host vigil on one-year anniversary of Sandy Hook shootings
In lieu of a public remembrance ceremony in Newtown, Conn., a vigil will be held at Washington’s National Cathedral on Dec. 12, two days before the one-year anniversary of the shooting rampage that killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The 75-minute event, scheduled to start at 3:45 p.m., will also honor more than 30,000 people across the United States who have been killed by guns in the 11 months since the Newtown shootings, said Dave Ackert, founder and chairman of the Newtown Action Alliance, which advocates for changing gun laws, and its charitable and educational sister organization, the Newtown Foundation, which is organizing the event.

“The reality is that it’s not just Newtown; Newtown opened a lot of people’s eyes but it’s a national problem,” Ackert said, adding that families affected by gun violence are expected to travel to Washington from around the country for the vigil.

“It’s crazy,” he said. “We’re raising a generation of kids who instead of selling Girl Scout cookies are selling bracelets to remember the kids who died in their community because of guns.”

Texas A&M law prof says it’s time to repeal Second Amendment
A full-time professor on the faculty of the newly-minted Texas A&M University School of Law called for the repeal and replacement of the Second Amendment on Friday.

The professor, Mary Margaret “Meg” Penrose, made her controversial declaration during a day-long panel symposium on gun control and the Second Amendment at the University of Connecticut School of Law in Hartford.

UConn’s main student-run journal, The Connecticut Law Review, organized the event, according to Connecticut Public Radio. It was well-attended, primarily by law students, law professors and local attorneys.

Penrose was among the speakers, reports CTNewsJunkie, a Connecticut news site.

Penrose cited the Sandy Hook massacre, which occurred in Connecticut, as well as other mass shootings including the 2011 Tucson shooting that left six people dead and U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords critically wounded.

Noting her own outrage that Americans continue to tolerate gun violence, Penrose asked audience members to raise their hands if they thought laws intended to prevent gun violence have been successful. No one raised a hand.
“I think I’m in agreement with you and, unfortunately, drastic times require drastic measures,” the professor said, according to CTNewsJunkie. “I think the Second Amendment is misunderstood and I think it’s time today, in our drastic measures, to repeal and replace that Second Amendment.”

Nothing grinds my gears more than people throwing the arguement around that you can order guns directly from the internet to your house. So much misinformation and stupidity.

A bunch of hot air being spread around by those preaching to the choir. When such claims have to prove merit in any sort of public hearings, their credibility, both the claims and the ones making them, is destroyed.

The antigun zealots were able to outlaw the mail ordering of military surplus rifles in 1964 as a result of the kennedy assassination. The antis would like to revisit that time era when the pro-gun political organization was non existent. So much for living in the past.

With the political focus on the train wreck called Obama care, none of these bills, proposals, or ideas are going anywhere. The democrats have enough division in their ranks.

Sadly in the face of ignorance it is too easy to lie and get away with it.

And do you know why we are going to lose our rights? Because they have an army of drones out there proposing these ludicrous laws, holding these ridiculous memorial services, and spreading these untruths. What do we have? Message boards where we preach to the choir, politicians that pretend to support 2A, but hardly take proactive steps to bring us back to true 2A freedoms....stupid videos of attention whores open carrying AR 15s down the road in hopes of being arrested...

We cannot win this war if we do not fight with intelligence, organization, and resolve.

Tell them to prove it and make a sizable wager, watch them eat crow.
Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.

Apparenly we had more than message boards to stop the myriad of gun laws in the democrat controled senate.

We do, however, need to be careful with the arguments we make.

In PA one can see an ad for a long gun on Armslist (or the classifieds here) and purchase that firearm with no FFL involved (provided both are PA residents)

Yeah, we've been quite good at defense. So where's the offense? You can't win a game if you don't score. We ain't even trying to score.

Yep, that .223 round is so much more powerful than the .30-06, .308 Win, or Thuddy-thuddy.

As for the buy on the internet crap, people just refuse to believe me when I tell them it isn't legally permissible. It may happen but there are bars where the bartender will sell a pistol with the serial number removed. It may happen but it isn't legal.
