I doubt this shotgun will go tactical. It's going to be the third choice for HD after my M&P handgun and AR. I want it to remain a barrel change away to hit the trap field. The most I might put is a shell holder on the stock.

The Mossberg combos, either the field and security or the field and rifled slug barrel I believe offer allot of versatility for the price.

In my research for a entry level but reliable all purpose pump shotgun it came down to the Mossberg 500 and the Remington 870. It sounds like the 870 could have a reputation for slightly better quality but that could also be fanboyism talking. The combo deals on the Mossberg defiantly tilted the economics in its favor for me.

This photo I found is about exactly how I will have the shotgun setup while stored at home.

I wont need the trap/skeet whatever barrel. I like the shell holder on the stock.

I need to get searching for a fairly priced one now!!

If you just want the security. Take a look at the maverick 88. It is a much cheaper option and is basically a Mossberg 500 rebranded.

My friend has the 88 and likes it. I believe you can also add Mossberg barrels to the 88 if you wanted to shoot clay's or hunt.

Don't forget for the REM. 870 crowd, You have the H&R pardner pump (protector) as an alternative. But the Mossberg 500 combo sounds like a sweet deal.

I have the 500 and a Maverick 88. Barrels definitely do interchange. The 500's trigger group supposedly holds up a little better over time because the safety isn't part of it, but unless you are shooting an 88 an extreme amount, it will never be a problem.
