Default How do you pick up your handgun brass?

I reload 9mm and will soonishly be reloading .223/5.56. For the AR-15 I can get a brass catcher that hangs off of the side. What do you use to pick up your handgun brass? There has to be an easier way than bending over and picking through cases on the ground.

I have been doing it the old fashioned way, picking it up by hand. Some guys use tarps, some guys use brass catchers, some guys use nut sweepers. If you are bench shooting the AR a cardboard box standing on its side keeps the brass from going so far.

Depending on the range its either a broom and a shovel or chunk of old surplus parachute. AR-15s all have brass catchers.

My dad just lays out a big tarp. I've seen others use the nut sweepers or the Dillon one. I just put a nitrile glove on and pick them up.

Dumb question, but why the glove?

Personally, I just pick them up one by one. Been thinking about using a tarp though for the longer range sessions. Never had too much trouble with handguns throwing brass far. Rifles are another story....my old Mini would put them into the next county.

Guy in the next booth was shooting a 9mm,sitting down, off a small rest. Nearly all the cases bounced into a box standing on the table alongside him.

He said he adjusted the charge until he got the brass to go there.

    I believe he did lol.

The glove is for lead. Primer leaves lead you can absorb. Touch lead dust touch face.

I have had one of these for a couple of years now. It works very well most of the time. It's performance is degraded somewhat by taller grass, but overall, it is great for aging knees. One mistake people new to using one is to push too hard against the ground. But used correctly it is the best way I have found.
