    Default Ruger SR1911

Thoughts on this pistol? I was thinking about getting one and really seem to like it, plus the positive reviews I've been reading are really convincing. Is there anything like it on the 1911 market (stainless and around $700 and also made in the USA)?

I've been thinking about one also. Nice gun. Can't beat the price.

It seems to be fairly exclusive as far as this goes, when you consider price and features. It is a very nice gun for the money, IMO.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

Seems like a very high quality handgun for the price point it retails at.

I really enjoy shooting mine whenever possible. I use it primarily for SASS Wild Bunch matches, and it always runs well for me. I leave the factory magazines in the box, and use Chip McCormick Stainless Shooting Star magazines in it.

How would it rate as a beginners first 1911?

Nothing beginner here. I started with a lama in the 80(s) and then I got colts. Back then colts were $600 and the lama was $150, thanks eagle arms. the ruger is a fine gun, so is the Remington. One of the best deals is rock island armory, I got one in 38super. I have a gut feeling ria will go up in price in the future because of the quality. Personal opinion here. To me the beaver tail and commander hammer make a big difference, stops me from bleeding. extended slide stop and I can drop the slide without major hand shifting, but a good school of thought says never use the stop to drop, rack every time. Everything else gets in the way. Extended safety and ambi you can get hooked up on when you rack. Stock works great and I'm right handed. Plane Gi sights are great for racking on your belt or pocket and have a good picture. They never move on you. I only had one bad steak job on a commander, it was an ez fix. Better off going crimson trace. Like I said just my opinion use it at your own risk

Beautiful gun. I just don't like the low capacity. I'd Spring for a 12-13 rounder.
With a 45 you only need one shot ofcoarse but if your in a shoot out scenario rounds count. That's why I got the Springfield XDM "super capacity". 1911 is a California spec gun "low capacity clip".
Don't get me wrong, I believe the 1911 is a better quality gun but I just want the extra rounds + Springfield isn't necessary a joke of a name.
Now if I said Highpoint you guys should shoot me with the 1911 lol

I have been quite happy with mine. The sr1911 was my first 1911 and it made me. A fan of the platform. Runs just about anything through it without problems for me. Looks great, is just as accurate as my kimber. There is really nothing to criticize on the gun.
