    Default AR15 7.62x39 upper receiver build ??

    Fellow shooters,
Has anyone experience with building or using a 7.62x39 upper?
I remember years ago there were some commercial models made but I guess were discontinued because of the lack of popularity. Yes, I know a 223 case necked up to .30 is a better choice and probably the best is the 6.5 or 6.8.. but for the moment I am not interested in wildcat cartridges.
I notice they still sell barrels for 7.62x39 and all web sites are sold out so someone some where must be building AR15 in 7.62x39 uppers. all comments negative as well are appreciated. Yes, I know the ballistics of this cartridge are nothing to brag about....there are many better choices.

I am interested to hear about this subject. I know Knights Armaments came out with a AR platform weapon that shot 7.62x39 from AK mags but they only built 6-7. More recently Rock River Arms came out with the LAR-47 which is the same concept as the Knights Armaments rifle but available to the public however it's pricy at $1500. Other than one favorable review I read in a magazine a year ago I haven't heard much.
Sanity, yours if you can keep it.....

Might want to check magazine prices first. I put together a 6.8 about 2 years ago and it was hard finding a magazine, and then it was priced high.

This comes up in the full auto community from time to time and most of the sear guys skip the BS and just get an MGI lower with changeable magwells:

Pricey? A little. Throw in the cost of a dozen mags (military surplus vs. specialty aftermarket) and it pays for itself.
