nearly, very nearly a big ouch
Quick back story, brand new remmy 870, less than 10 rounds.
Good friend of mine, ready to pull the trigger, and just "felt" something was wrong...
lowered the muzzle and we both heard something move, muzzle up, there it was again. muzzle down...and the barrel drops to the floor!!!
Round was chambered and his finger was on the trigger ready to go before he felt something not right.
Would have ruined his freaking day.

Re: nearly, very nearly a big ouch
Curious, what would of happened had he pulled the trigger? Wouldn't the barrel have just been shot forward with the round or is there some operator injury I am missing here?
FWIW, I have never handled or fired a shotgun, just pistols.

Re: nearly, very nearly a big ouch
While its hard to predict for sure, I would venture to guess the round would gone down the barrel but the recoil would have thrown the barrel in to the shooters face. Or since the action/breach wasn't fully locked there could have been gas blowback or ruptured case issues. Either way I wouldn't want to be the one testing that out.

Did you buy this new or used? You mention new but also "less than 10 rounds". Are you going back through Remington or source of purchase?

I doubt the barrel would have moved a lot.
But, doesn't that look bent where it broke? That's really messed up.
You buy that from a shop or a private owner? Dang.

Shucks, hit it with the duct tape and get back to the range.
Seriously, that is a mess. Glad your friend held off on squeezing the trigger.
