Think I may have fell in love tonight
With a Kimber Ultra CDP II. I've been lusting after a 3-3.5" 1911 and decided to go renting tonight. Felt great in my little girly hands and the recoil wasn't nearly as bad as some people report it to be. Granted, that was with basic white box range ammo but still. Even after a big Red Bull I still made a nice, ragged hole at 6-8 yards. I was more going for feel and experience over overall accuracy tonight.
I'm assuming Sig and Springfield counterparts are similar in feel. Or are there some major differences? I've seen some eeeh reviews of the Kimber but I don't think I've ever seen a negative of the Sig. I've oogled an Ultra Nitron locally and they are equally perty.

I think the melt job on the CDP is worth it.

Re: Think I may have fell in love tonight
I have one. It has to be one of the nicest overall 3" 1911 out there.
I found both triggers to be terrible to me so the triggers are on a scale to me.. The Glock was a crisper suck and the XD was a more mushy suck. They are in the same family, SR9 (heavy suck), Glock (crisp heavy suck), XD( lighter mushy suck), M&P(heavy mushy suck).

Re: Think I may have fell in love tonight
I'm afraid to ask, but what is the "melt job?"
Also, I have heard 1911s have feeding problems with HPs when the barrel gets below 3.5". Is this even a potential issue with this firearm with any ammo?
I am going to pick up a 1911 eventually and I was looking at RIA but can't find a Commander with the features I want. Thanks in advance.

The sharper angles of the gun are rounded off and smoothed out. I couldn't find any before and after pics but a quick Google search shows the rounded edges.
Regarding JHP's and the 1911, there are answers and opinions all across the board. I honestly think it's a case by case thing.

Re: Think I may have fell in love tonight
It's not that the recoil is bad, it's just bad for a small carry gun that you might need to rapid fire, and unless you have a decent amount of training, controlling that little monster in a rapid fire situation is way more than a chore.
There are a lot of those Kimbers out there...way more than Sig, so you see more reviews on the Kimber. It is not a handgun for everyone. Male and female, alike, have bought these as carry guns just to have nothing but grief with them because the gun is the 'poster child' for failures due to poor grip. People that are on the weaker side or are fragile/delicate, will have a hell of a time getting along with this firearm. You cannot rest one on a table with a worn recoil spring and fire it with 700 fps target loads and expect it to function. It's a high performance handgun that needs high performance technique to get the most out of it.BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

I don't like an ANY aluminum framed 1911's.
I understand that they server certain purpose, but I just don't like them.
But I don't like the Sig's external extractor even more tho...
Id go with Springfield Champion or something in that area personallyAudemus jura nostra defendere

Re: Think I may have fell in love tonight
I have one. Love it, but on mine the Kimpro finish has been separating from the frame after about 1600 rounds. Kimber CS was not very helpful and I have heard negative things from other Kimber owners about the Kimpro finish.
That being said, I still love the gun, even though one should not have to have such an issue on a $1631 gun (mine has the Crimson Trace laser grips).Last edited by ShooterInPA1; October 18th, 2013 at 03:23 PM.
The USA is now a banana republic. Only without the bananas....or the Republic.
