Default FOPA and Travel to VA

Just want to make sure I am not missing anything:

I will be driving to VA this weekend and will be travelling through the Peoples Republic of Maryland and Delaware. I have a PA concealed carry and a VA non-resident permit. I will be driving a Jeep (no trunk). My plan is the following:

    - Lock the gun through the barrel and inside a locked gun case in the back of the Jeep.
    - I wil also lock the unloaded magazine and rounds in a separate gun case, also in the back of the Jeep.
    - Just in case, I will have a printed copy of FOPA in the car
    - Upon crossing into the beautiful State of VA, I will proceed to unlock my weapon and carry it in the car, about my person as needed.
    - I will repeat the process when driving back.

Will I be in compliance with FOPA?

    Thanks...!

From my understanding, you should be good to go. One of my buddies lived in Fairfax for about 2 years, and I always carried when going down to visit. I would unload and lock up before entering Maryland and reload when across the Potomac.

One side note: as of December 7, Delaware will no longer recognize a Virginia license.

Does the same md gun transportation laws aply to shotguns and rifles? Meaning, in my situation, does it make a difference if I am traveling with a ruger 22 vs a semi auto? Would my protection still come from FOPA and the same rules would apply? Locked, different compartment...etc?

FOPA transport protection, when all preconditions are met, applies to ALL types of firearms except antique firearms. A word of caution: it arguably also does not apply to magazines or ammunition.
