    Default advice on a hunting scope

    Not looking to spend alot at this time, just need a good/solid hunting scope to put on my bolt action 30-06. That said, I figured I'd post the question here to see what you all's experience has been. The last hunting scope I bought was for my 30-30 Marlin about 30 years ago, nothing fancy just a 3x9 Tasco. I know the good ones (Leupold, Nikon etcc) but what about at the the lower price points? When my finances improve I'll pick a higher quality one, but for now just something simple that won't break my bank account. Thanks!

    Nikon prostaff
    Nikon Buckmaster
    Redfield Revolution-these are made by Leupold

    I have used the prostaff and the redfield and like them both. They are clear and hold a good zero from my 30-30,243 and 270win

    +1 on the Nikon prostaff, I have a 2-7x32 on a rifle that is great, very clear.

    stopped by Walmart earlier today, saw a Bushnell bone crusher 3x9 scope. Anybody have any experience/thoughts on it? Not a big selection at this particular Walmart/didn't see any Nikon's, had a space for them but no stock.

    Another vote here for the Nikon ProStaff. I have a 3x9 and a 4x12 and both are bright, clear, and rock solid.
    If gun control worked, Chicago would be like Mayberry, instead of Thunderdome.

    Check out SWFA they have a lot of different brands available,and so far seem to have the best prices on optics. Whichever brand/model you decide on. SWFA Inc www.riflescopes.com/‎

    I was in the same boat, just wanted an inexpensive scope that could get the job done.

    You appear to be in the same area.. Check out Kings Shooter Supply.. They have Konus scopes as well as others, at a decent price and you can check it out.

    I put Konus 3x9 i think it was on a Ruger 308 American Rifle. At 100 yards, it is holding a 1" or smaller group. Seems to be fairly clear.. I don't think it compares to the better name stuff, but I just wanted something to get by and wasn't too expensive..
    The problem with shooting Chinese bullets is 15 minutes later you wanna shoot again.

    Although I agree with you (and I'd probably take an SWFA over most scopes that cost a few hundred more than they do), most people who say 'they don't want to spend a lot now', can only afford about $300+/- at the most.

    Also, your link didn't work;

    I'm not trying to break rules by commenting to a the classifieds, but there's no way in hell I'd make the recommendation to the OP to buy that scope. It's a VX-1, and used. It may still be in the box, but in the second to the last picture, you can tell it's been mounted in rings.
