    Default Protective Carbine 2 (Applications)

Protective Shooting Concepts Protective Carbine 2 (Applications)

Protective Carbine Applications is designed to mentally take shooters off the range and set them against the backdrop of the everyday world. This is accomplished by instilling a shift in mindset: that you are at all times preparing yourself to prevail against a potentially lethal threat that you cannot safely retreat from. Techniques covered include remedial/advanced malfunction clearance, movement and pros/cons of shooting-on-the-move (SOTM), weak side shooting and manipulations, introduction to the use of cover, and transitions to sidearms (and the applicability of this technique). There is an introduction to low light shooting and illumination techniques the evening of Day One.

Heavy emphasis is placed on operating the carbine as a home defense weapon, where the shooter may have absolutely minimal gear and essentially only what is "strapped to the gun". Throughout the course, active ammunition management is emphasized, as is scanning and assessing for potential threats and status checking weapons before they are slung on safe. A lawyer (also a trained shooter) will discuss certain legalities of NFA weapons and home defense for Pennsylvania. This course deals with situations which constitute likely scenarios, i.e. the middle of the statistical "bell-curve". The normal minimum instructor to student ratio is 1:5.

    Prerequisites:

    • Successful completion of a basic carbine AND basic pistol class.
    • A minimum of several weeks (preferably months) of routine range time and dry practice leading up to the class.
    • Should be able to present from low ready and place 10 rounds into an IDPA -0 chest circle at 20 yards in 12 seconds (IDPA scoring).
    • Should be able to present from low ready and place five rounds into an IDPA -0 chest circle, perform an emergency reload, and place two additional rounds into an IDPA -0 head box from seven yards in 12 seconds (IDPA scoring).
    • The above standards will be conducted as a shooting test immediately upon completion of the safety brief on Day One.

    Class Requirements:

    • eye protection & electronic ear protection (SureFire Sonic Defender or similar style earpro is fine)
    • semi-auto carbine with confirmed zero
    • functional iron sights
    • sling which allows your weapon to hang in a vertical orientation (muzzle pointing down)
    • minimum one magazine pouch worn on belt
    • several spare carbine magazines
    • 1000 rounds rifle ammo – preferably factory
    • weapon mounted light
    • handgun/holster/50 rounds handgun ammo for transition work
    • hand held flashlight appropriate for concealed carry
    • suitable range wear depending on the season

If ammunition availability/cost is the ONLY THING holding you back from Nov. 16/17 Protective Carbine Applications, you need to get in touch with me.

Students for that class have access to good ammo at killer prices.

    I'm not kidding.

We'll be doing a lot of low-light work this coming weekend. Protective Carbine Applications deals with situations which constitute likely scenarios, i.e. the middle of the statistical "bell-curve".
