    Default Carbon Receiver ARs: Opinions?

I hadn't heard of these, largely because I've never really "shopped" for an AR. Definitely something I'd be interested in these days, though, if I run into enough $ for the purchase. Couple days ago, I stumbled onto the Bushmaster Carbon 15 line. The idea of an AR weighing 5.5 lbs (without mag) is very appealing to me. And offhand, I can't think of any obvious drawbacks in carbon fiber vs. aluminum. But... no handling experience to go by.

Anyone own one? Or have had some trigger time with one? Would be very interested in opinions.

    Thanks.

There has been a few threads on this.

RUN from the carbon 15. I do not recommend at all.

Let me help you get started with your search for information on the CAR-15.

There are better ways to end up with that weight. They cost more though.
Unless you only ever plan on light linking I would stay away.

I have the idea of assembling a lightweight AR for my wife. Maybe a route you are interested in.
    GWACS lower
DPMS Lo Pro slab side upper
14.5½ barrel with pinned welded A2 with FSB
    Colt handguards.

Should weigh in less than 6lbs with better reliability.

FYI: Don't let the slab side full you. It's not light. Look at Anderson Manufacturing. They have a "sport" style upper for like $65.

    Edit: Make that $55 http://www.andersonrifles.net/index....l#.Uk1r5VM9Lcs

IMO, a Carbon Fiber lower would be OK with a dedicated 22LR upper, wouldn't it?

I'd never run a centerfire upper on a CF lower; there's been too many reports of breakage with photos to prove it.

Use the search feature. This has been covered a lot and recently.

The lower being plastic on the carbon 15 is not as much of and issue as the plastic upper. I would not spend my money on one.

If your looking for an inexpensive AR, may I recommend a M&P15 Sport for right around $600? It's actually made of metal.....

You should buy it. It's a great gun. I mean unless you are trying to impress the sewing circle jackoffs in the AR pic threads ( no one really shoots their guns......)

So what they get broken by UPS, UPS could break anything.

So what if the picatinny rail pulls from the upper, you dont need optics or sights if you are a real snake eater.

So what if the upper snaps in half the AR is modular and you could slap a BCM upper on it.

So what if the lower receiver buffer extention or pivot pin area breaks, the AR is modular and you could slap a Daniel Defense lower on it.

So what if Bushmaster CS won't help you with your problems, this is the age of the internet and you can just order a new AR that isn't broken!

As an added incentive Bushmaster even issues you a man card. NOW that is operator son.

I always sleep with my guns when you are gone
