Why does my "new" shotgun have so much wear?
The magazine has a ton of wear.
And theres all this black crap in the barrel, gun powder residue?
Is this err "normal"?

Re: Why does my "new" shotgun have so much wear?
How much have you shot it?
There will usually be wear between the mag tube and the forearm on a pump shotgun, and it doesn't always take a long time to appear.
I've never had a shotgun with a light colored barrel such as yours (stainless?), but that's about the color of the residue that comes out when I clean mine.
I'm going to call it normal.

Re: Why does my "new" shotgun have so much wear?
I agree it depends on how much you've shot it. I've shot my 20 guage 15 rounds or so and has about the same wear. A shotgun blast is pretty powerful and just one shot will make quite a difference. I'd say normal unless it's straight out of the box new. It's certainly used but not necessarily that much.

If this is how the gun looked right out of the box, and you have not shot it, then I would say that something is wrong.
However, you have the word NEW in quotes, leading me to wonder how new it is. Why did you write it that way?

Re: Why does my "new" shotgun have so much wear?
In the first pic it looks like a bead blasted finish which would wear to shit just pumping the gun a few times. If this was off the shelf of a shop then it was probably racked dozens of times.
The gun powder residue would be normal for a factory test fire since most manufactures no longer clean them afterwards.
What brand is it? And how "new" is it?

Re: Why does my "new" shotgun have so much wear?
Sorry, let me clarify.
It has a matte nickel finish and was sold to me as factory new. I was using the quotes to be a bit sarcastic since it seems to have quite a bit of wear.
It arrived to my FFL in plastic and in the box. I haven't fired it and other than factory test firing, should not have been fired.
The seller seemed like a nice guy and has perfect feedback...
I want an exchange.Last edited by hotdog; September 7th, 2013 at 01:56 AM.

Re: Why does my "new" shotgun have so much wear?
It sounds like you bought a gun from a private seller. Therefore it is by definition a used gun, one shell or a thousand through it.
That gun looks like the slide has been racked more than a few times.
I've seen lots of used guns that are described as "just a few rounds to break it in". Kinda like the used car that was only used by an old lady to drive to church on Sunday.
To me, "factory new" would imply still in the original packaging, unfired.
Do they test fire shotguns the way they do pistols?

Re: Why does my "new" shotgun have so much wear?
If I bought that shotgun off gun broker and it was advertized as "factory new"; I would be returning it to the seller and demanding my money back.
After the last two experiences I have had on gun boker I will not buy a firearm on line unless prior to the sell I get a 3 day inspection period and if the firearm isn't what was advertized I can return it on the SELLERS dime. The oracle is in. Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!!
