it's 6 of one half dozen of another...

I've seen several members trading back from a 4 to a 3 and I've also seen the opposite. I'd try to find a member who has one in your current model and offer them a box of ammo to test it out.

    I have a g23 gen3 with a low round count that I would gladly trade for a g23 gen4

The Gen 4 fits my hand better, but that's totally subjective. With the Gen 4, you can pick which grip you like better.

You'll probably get 50/50 responses. Everyone is different. Gen 4 has the different backstraps, but I personally like the Gen 3 grip texture better. When carrying against the skin under just a t-shirt (no undershirt), the Gen 4 texture is a little uncomfortable for me.

Gen 4 has a different type recoil spring, but I don't know if that makes any difference in shooting feel. I don't have identical models in Gen 3 and 4. Maybe others can speak to that.

Personal preference. I'm left handed and have smaller than average hands. The ergos and the reversible mag release on the Gen4 are a god send to me. If you are left handed and have larger than average hands, then the Gen4 might be an option for you because of the modular back strap system.

    They both shoot great.

I have 4 G17's, 2 gen2's, gen3 and a gen4, I prefer the gen2 over all but my gen4 is slowly becoming my favorite. My gen4 is a great shooter, no brass to face issues and has been 100% reliable.
