Default Marlin 25N Makeover (pic heavy)

I posted last week about a neglected 25N that I was able to acquire.

It was rusty, dusty and in need of some TLC.

Previous owner varnished right over the labels on the forend.

    Small nick in the forend.

Worn stock with runs in the varnish.

    Sanded clean and smooth.

Refinished in Red Mahogany and sealed with clear satin spar urethane.
Rust on barrel removed with 000 steel wool.

I hope to range test it later this week before buying mags and mounting a scope.

Nicely done! It's always nice to see a neglected firearm brought back to life !

Very nice work! Everyone has different tastes, but this is the first time I've actually seen a refinish job I personally liked better than the original lol.

Very nice! I love seeing these old, practical kinds of guns getting restored. To me they have much more history and value than than the fancy stainless / tacticool stuff of today.

its kind of suprising the nice grain on some of these old Marlin.22s stocks, they finish them to be very plain vanilla but if you refinish them they have some great hidden character in the grain
    Good job!
I just went over mine with tungoil and it looks great, nice and blonde with darker grains and a flat finish

That rifle will outlast you and the next 3 generations in your family. Good job on the cleanup and good shooting.

Very nice job. My favorite part of refinishing any firearm is always the stock. Love the color!

    Good job!

There was a time when decent wood was cheap. Now all wood is expensive.

I can't even afford to build shelves anymore, and I don't care about the grain.
