Need local PD check card for LTCF renewal? (Montgomery County)

I live in Montgomery County. This is my first renewal for my LTCF which expires in NOV. Do I need to get another local PD check before going to the MC courthouse if I get it done prior to my expiration date?

Legally, no. You don't have to submit to any of their additional requirements above and beyond the standardized application and $20 fee.

I did not need the check card when I renewed last year. Just have the form which you can get ahead of time on the PA state site.

You pay your fee and they take a new photo.

What is this "check card" you guys talk about?

When I got my LTCF in Fayette county a few months ago, there wasn't any "PD Check Card".

I just filled out the application and the sheriff called PICS ad photo was taken.

It's a Montgomery County thing. They are making the applicant do part of the investigative leg work by getting him/her to go to their local PD and get a written "OK" from them regarding any possible local issues with the applicant.

Too bad there's not a law in place that makes the process uniform across the state.

Don't interpret my answer as being in favor of or OK with it, I was just explaining what the damned thing is...

They probably rationalize it as being part of their investigation rather than an actual part of the "one page" application. I'd guess that until they refuse to issue a license because someone declines to do the check card for them, there isn't much that can be done about it, other than refusing to jump through the hoop.

Philly gets away with worse but that sure doesn't make either right (or legal).

I think it's been noted before that w/ the card, LTCF issuance is relatively quick. Without it, they tack on some punitive waiting time - slap on the wrist sort of thing.

I think streaker meant a law/clarification that closes any potential local extra steps like the check card.

Actually, no. The law is already very clear on it, and only a couple of counties have decided to do things their own way. If we're going to make a change to the UFA, I'd like to see real punishments for sheriffs that break the law.
