PHILADELPHIA (Map, News) - Officials in Philadelphia are hoping to get about 6,800 fugitives to turn themselves in over the next year.

That's about 10 percent of the number of wanted individuals in the city.

The new initiative announced Wednesday is called "Peaceful Surrender." Officials say about 150 clergy members have been trained on how to accept and process a surrendering criminal.

Deputy Mayor Everett Gillison says not every fugitive needs to be locked up. He says some are hiding from traffic offenses and child support issues.

Officials say those who surrender will be shown some consideration under the law, depending on the details of their case.

I hope the BG that can read English and not Ebonics will read it to the other BG and they flood City Hall. Turn in their guns and honest gun owner can but them (the guns) and get the city out of debt.

Its true then that insanity has taken hold of our elected leaders and other public leaders. I guess we should make reservations for the nut house now and get the rooms with a view.

It really is tiring reading all the trash in the media about these types of solutions to the social ills of society.

Who knows maybe Britney and Lindsay will have epiphanies and become upstanding citizens.
