Independence 5.56 M193
Not sure what "jacket boat tail" refers to but has anyone tried this ammo?
If so, would you recommend it?
Is it worth $265 for 500?

Re: Independence 5.56 M193
Boat tail is kind of like a taper at the base of the projectile ( bullet).
I haven't heard of any bad things about it.FOAC Member, NRA Member

Re: Independence 5.56 M193
Nothing crazy about it, it's contract 5.56 XM193 made by Israeli military industries and imported by Federal. The 55 gr boat tail is very common. The only possible negative impact is if you have a .223 chambered weapon and try to fire the military pressure rounds. The IMI stuff is decent, but that price is a little high. Sign of the times.....

Re: Independence 5.56 M193
Both M193 and M855 used by the military have always been boat tail. There's nothing uncommon about it. I would guess the majority or a large minority of default projectiles for rifle ammo developed in the second half of the 20th Century are boat tail. But I am not an expert, just that there's a lot of it. Most factory match ammo I see is HPBT (hollow point boat tail). Good enough for the military, good enough for match.

That price is a bit high. Tanners was just selling it for $225 per 500, I don't know if they have any cases of 500 left but they were also selling it at $9.99 for a box of 20.

Here is a picture, boat tail on left, flat base on right......boat tails are supposed to have more ballistic benefits at long range, most all military rounds have a BT base."Disperse you Rebels! Damn you! Throw down your Arms and Disperse!" British Major Pitcairn at Lexington April 19, 1775
