"sharks with laser beems"
My kid (25 yr.) wants to buy a low kick, all popose, hunting/target rifle. .17cal is a great cheep target rifle. 270, is a great one shot deer killer. I told him to get a .243 WSSM, low kick, flat trajectory. Still drop a deer with a well placed shot.
Any suggestions?

Re: "sharks with laser beems"
i would suggest a .243 also, but i would go with just plain ol' .243 win.

Re: "sharks with laser beems"
I love my Model 70 in .243 Winchester, but any good modern one will be just fine.
Glock Pistols.......So simple a Caveman could fix them!

Re: "sharks with laser beems"
remington 700s are really nice rifles in any caliber, but can be a bit pricey.
i had a remington 788 in .243 win growing up. the model 788 is cheaper than the 700, but it was a great gun. very accurate and reliable.
stevens also makes fine rifles at a good price.
and, as posted above, the winchester model 70 is a great rifle. i think they are kinda pricey, too, though.
how much do ya wanna spend? might want to consider a cheaper gun (since you can definitely still get very high quality rifles like the model 788 and stevens for less money and use the savings to buy a good scope and/or ammo).

it's my kid buying it. he works, he don't pay rent, and his mom spoils the hell out of him. but the kid will do anything i tell him. ie..sit stay, take out the trash, shoot the jackass traing o break in. he'd a good kid. he could spend about a grand. he said " Dad what gun is like a laser beem but not to harsh like uncle Tom's Holland & Holand. I said .243
