WWII 1911 Registeration
I have a WWII 1911 Colt 45 my uncle kept from the war. He was in the unit that was with General Patton when Patton returned to the phillippians.
Question: How do I get this registered or can't it be registered for fear the government may want it back?

Re: WWII 1911 Registeration
There is no gun registry in Penna.
PSP does keep an illegal record of S/Ns sold or transferred through Firearms dealers, since most - if not all pistols must be transferred through them - unless the transferred occurred "out of State"
Likely it was given or sold to him when he was discharged. This was not uncommon.
I would not worry about the fed wanting it back, but I wouldn't contact the Dept. of the Army and ask.
Owning Firearms
Do I have to register my firearms in Pennsylvania?
No, in fact in Pennsylvania it is actually illegal for any government or police agency to keep a registry of firearms per 18 Pa.C.S. § 6111.4 (Registration of firearms). If you legally possess bring your firearms into the Pennsylvania or come into possession of the firearms legally, no further action is required.
It should be noted however that all transfers of handguns in Pennsylvania are required to go through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) and as such the Pennsylvania State Police keep a "Sales Database" of all handguns purchased within the Commonwealth. While almost any casual observer can see that this database clearly violates the spirit of 18 Pa.C.S. § 6111.4 (Registration of firearms), in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court agreed with the Pennsylvania State Police that because the database is not a complete record of all handgun ownership (as people bringing handguns into the state do not have to register them), it does not.

Not to worry.
Lots of U.S. Property marked firearms were sold through the N.R.A. back in the day.
Property marked guns are very common.Crusader's local #556 South Central Asia chapter

Yeah, I'd think MacArthur too.
I was born just before WWII started. I recall newsreels of MacArthur wading ashore in the Philippines, keeping his vow to return.Guns kill people like spoons made Rosie O'donnell fat. NRA Life Member

Re: WWII 1911 Registeration
My question is how did you acquire the pistol? Was it left to you in the will?
George,
So many guns, so little money.

Re: WWII 1911 Registeration
I believe your question is more properly posed if you were to state: "how may I legally own this pistol?" I believe the answer is that the administrator of your uncle's estate should transfer ownership to you through an FFL and that you should go through the background check process. As long as you are not a "prohibited person" you should have no problems.
