Subject: SANTARSIERO-Requiring Background Checks for All Firearms
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will amend Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes by requiring background checks be conducted on all firearm purchasers.
Currently, the Crimes Code requires firearm sales be conducted in front of a licensed importer, manufacturer, dealer, or county sheriff. However, this provision is only applicable to short-barreled firearms. My legislation would remove this applicability provision and require all firearm sales, regardless of the barrel length, be conducted in front of a licensed importer, manufacturer, dealer, or county sheriff. Ultimately, this legislation would require background checks be conducted for each firearm purchase, which will ensure that individuals attempting to obtain a firearm are authorized to possess such weapons.
Please join me in protecting the residents of this Commonwealth by closing the loopholes that have permitted unauthorized individuals access to firearms."Cives Arma Ferant"

In reality the thing that would make Pennsylvanian's much safer and free would be to vote out of office people like Santarsiero who is in the business to make as many people as possible reliant on an all powerful and encompassing government.Corruption is the default behavior of government officials. Is this the one you speak of?
Since this is a Public Hearing. Written testimony in the form of a letter or email message may be presented. It might be best to check with the committee staff first though just to be sure.

I am not sure how there is not more concern here. This is the only gun bill, and it is an anti-gun bill, that has made it to a hearing and is moving forward!! A few are sneaking this under the radar in the middle of the summer. Please speak out and oppose this!!!!!

Re: HB1010 Hearing coming up...
I don't know why they think this will help anything. Everyone knows the mass majority of firearms used in crime are handguns which already have that requirement kind of proving that the background checks are kind of useless and don't really prevent anything.
I saw a study that most handguns used by criminals have a max capacity of 8 rounds or less on average. It's like New York wrote their new gun laws to really only affect legal owners.

The hearing begins on the background checks at 1030 this morning.
I know that there are people there and two from FOAC that are on the list to testify.

Re: HB1010 Hearing coming up...
A total of 230 people last year were killed via long gun...230! That's less than people killed with hammers. People killed by fists and far less that people falling out of the bed or stairs!
This is BS legislation for government to move on to the next level of control.
