wow i thought that was easy question and i would have answer by now. So using ammoseek.com cheapest 5.56 is 0.50 per round. Two years ago i paid $400 including shipping, that is 0.40 per round. Is it reasonable to ask $550 FTF?

Check the classifieds so you can gauge the local market.

If you want that much give serious consideration to counter offers that come close. Prices are dropping and online sources are offering free shipping and other incentives to avoid losing money on ammo they paid too much for.

For what it's worth, 1,000 round cases of Wolf were available at the Harrisburg gun show (June 8-9) for as low as $230

It all depends. If you have a buddy willing to buy it, cut him a deal. I picked up 600 rounds of federal 5.56 the other day for $200. A damn steal. Considering 10 of them were Incendiary rounds. Not going into that one.
