Default Berks LTCF renewal...Sheriff Weaknecht rules

Went for my renewal, first time at one of the sheriff's substations, went to the Reading airport.

Absoulutely fantastic not having to go downtown and take care of this, $20 and process done in 10 minutes.

While I really like the old architecture (stone, woodwork and open high ceilings) of the "old" courthouse, it is a hassle going downtown to park.

Weaknecht really did a good job on this.

I have heard the same thing from a friend who lives in Berks, he renewed his in 10 minutes somewhere in Hamburg. Now that's a Sheriff who really is pro-2A.

I guess you'll have that from the sheriff who got sued and set the PASC precedent of what's required when revoking a person's LTCF (see Caba v. Weaknecht).

Berks county sheriffs office sends a deputy out to several boro halls every month for LTCF applicants. My wife got hers at Birdsboro boro hall.

yep, at the Colebrookdale township building it took me 9 minutes to get my LTCF pic taken, licence printed and get back in my car again. That's the way it should be.

Yes however the courts ruled in Sheriff Weaknecht's favor in the case.

No complaints here... Sheriff Weaknecht has made the process even easier than it was when he was a deputy under Sheriff Wozniak.

IMHO, the issuance and revocation of LTCFs is one of the most visible responsibilities to the public that a Sheriff performs, and as far as I'm concerned Weaknecht got it right without any doubt. We have one of the most convenient (if not THE most convenient) application/renewal processes in the state; a lot of other county Sheriffs would do well to look at the example being set by Weaknecht. Not only will he issue on the spot if your PICS check comes through, but one week a month his deputies setup up a roving unit in branch offices, that allow county residents to apply at a location close to them. A real benefit given the absolute HOLE that Reading has become.

When he ran for the office, I voted for him on his promise to make the LTCF process easier for county residents. Not only did he fulfill his promise, he exceeded my expectations, and I'd have no hesitation voting for him again on this sole issue.

I went there too. In and out in about 15 minutes. WORST part of mine was the 1.5 hr drive EACH way.
